NHS 3% Pay rise - Thoughts?
It's always easy for people to give opinions on things where we're not actually involved in ,but here's my take.

The blanket 3% is totally wrong IMO, even some dentists are getting a pay rise who have been furloughed as their surgeries have been shut.

For me, ALL front line staff, nurses, porters, cleaners, matrons, paramedics should all receive a pay rise, however there's a lot of staff who are getting payrises without really contributing as much as these people who've been undoubtedly "under it" for the last 17 months.

Also, 3 % for someone on 20k isn't all that much, but when you go higher up the ladder the 3% becomes a lot more sexy.

For me, this is the issue with the NHS being run as an institution instead of being run like a business, pay rises should all be performance related.

What's your thoughts?

3% for a grossly underpaid organisation is fair enough. Some areas should get more though, those who actually worked through the pandemic and made a difference should be getting more. GPs and Dentists who have pretty much clocked off for the last eighteen months ought to fucking give theirs back, the lazy cunts.

Re: NHS 3% Pay rise - Thoughts?
eastend, a counter argument to that is that we've just paid out 54 million to the fucking frogs so they can send more boats into the channel - we've also spent billions on the track and trace, not to mention the hundreds of billions on HS2.

For me, anyone who's been on that front line deserves a fucking medal, but as Vexed says there's been GP's and dentists who've royally taken the fucking piss.

"pay rises should all be performance related."

130,000 dead from covid? So you think those doctors and nurses should refund some of last year's wages?

Re: NHS 3% Pay rise - Thoughts?
oioi, a large proportion of those who have died, haven't died because of covid, they've died having covid.

Not to mention the average age being 80 odd.

If they fund this rise by removing, without possible reinstatement, a complete management/administrative layer then we might be getting somewhere.

The NHS is being run like a business. That's why they have targets and decisions are made in offices by clipboard holding, powerpoint presenting office workers with no experience or qualifications in health care. Consultants are overruled by secretaries. Hopeless.

Thatcher started it, NHS has been in decline ever since.

Oxsaw - The management of the NHS is a fucking joke, I keep hearing that there's lack of funding - but over the last year the amount of money that's been raised through various things like Sir Tom just doesn't sit with me.

The NHS will continue to be a money pit with the way it's run, whilst i don't want it to become private, it needs to be run like a private company.

NHS Walk-In Centres took a massive unnecessary workload off GPs and A&E Departments.

Cameron closed them because some lackey in an office told him they weren't good business. Joke.

NHS needs to be more efficient but definitely should NOT be run as a business.

Re: NHS 3% Pay rise - Thoughts?
As someone who works on the front line ( sorry Mike).....the 3% seems just about the minimum rise they can get away with paying us...... politically speaking.

A one off tax free bonus .....maybe £1k ..... would have been a nice gesture......a few countries did something like that

To be honest, pay isn't a huge issue where I work at the moment.....as workload and staff welfare is more of a concern
If you're working a 12 hour shift then not getting your breaks and then having a 2 hour overrun is no fun at all

Private wards attached to NHS hospitals is a great idea. Run the ward with NHS staff and facilities. Run the business in competition with private hospitals, offer a private hospital experience to those that have insurance.

The profit goes straight into the NHS instead of a private company.

Devon, I can only go by my sister in law who's a ward matron, and there's huge uproar about the pay increase, as if you take inflation into account the pay rise represents about 0.9%, £2 a week.

oioi, the NHS is run so badly, I used to do recruitment for locums who were on an absolute fortune for literally a days work, tell me how this is good for the NHS and business for that matter?

The fact that the NHS has had billions upon billions pumped into it, and people still moan there's a lack of investment shows how poorly it's been run from the people at the top with zero business sense, hence why I believe it be better off run more like a business.

Sounds like she'd just spend any payrise on biscuits anyway. Probably for the best it's not a big one.
